Bengali people have a distinct taste which others may find peculiar but we Bengalis are proud of. Sunday's are quite a special day for Bengali people, to get recharged for the coming week. Sunday is a feast day and planning for it begins from Fridays itself. Here are few things Bengali people surely need if its Sunday.

  1. Flat Bread and Potato Curry (Luchi-Aloo Dum)

A Sunday morning is worthless if there is no Luchi-Aloo Dum for breakfast. Nothing is more appealing than fresh fried Luchi (flat bread)and delicious looking, hot and spicy Aloo Dum (potato curry).
  2. Going to Bazar (Bag Bhorti Bazar)

After a stomach full breakfast its time to go for some shopping of eatables. A Sunday lunch has to be special after a tiresome week. Going to bazar is something cherished by Bengali men of all ages.
  3. Mutton and Rice (Manghso Bhat)

Now this is a must for Bengali people to have mutton and rice in lunch sitting together with the family on Sundays. You know its Sunday if you can smell mutton being cooked from your neighbor's kitchen.

After such a heavy lunch, its time for a sweet nap in the afternoon. Its an usual tradition in Bengali homes that is taught to us at a very young age.
  5. Evening Tea with Biscuit (Chaa and Rusk Biscuit)

Chaa (Tea) is a very important part of Bengali people's food chain. And after such a sweet afternoon nap, a cup of tea and adda with family is something missed during busy weekdays.
  6. Evening snacks with puffed rice and fries (Mudhi Telebhaja)

This tradition is slowly fading among the younger generation who prefer KFC and Dominos over this homemade delicacy. However this is something you must try sometime, I bet you can ditch your KFC for an evening.
  7. Evening walk(Lake er dhare Walk)

It is said, Bengali people are very romantic, and you won't believe it till you see couples of ages from 18-80 walking down the park lanes. Close to nature in a peaceful landscape with your loved one by your side, a perfect evening to boost your energy for rest of the week.
  8. Movie or Drama (Natok /cinema dekha)
    Bengali theatre

Theater is a very important part of bengali culture, and it still has its glorious place in our culture. Sunday is the day with family and watching a quality drama or movie gives you a quality time with your family.
  9. Dining out (Bayre Khawa)

After a good movie its time to get some quality food outside. This doesn't always mean dining out at fancy restaurants but even street side delicacies. Be it roll or moughlai partha or chowmin, you can have plenty to choose and get your stomach full for the night. Or you can even go for the famous Chelo Kebab at Peter Cat in Park Street.
  10. Again its Monday (Abr seyi Sombar)

After such a food feast day and quality time with family, the thought of next day being Monday brings the ultimate disheartened feeling.
All these together makes a Sunday the most exciting day of the week for Bengali people. Let me know in the comments if I missed out some other interesting fact. And be sure to let all Bengalis feel a little nostalgic by sharing this with them.
